Day 1: Djanet — The Oasis
A day among the palm groves before the ascent. The old ksour of El Mihan and Zelouaz, their foggara-fed gardens; the covered souk and its silversmiths’ quarter; an evening of imzad music and the three-glass tea ceremony around the fire.
Day 2-3: The Ascent
Departure from Djanet with Tuareg mountain guides and a caravan of pack donkeys, climbing the ancient stone pass (akba) onto the Tassili plateau — a UNESCO World Heritage site accessible only on foot.
Day 4-5: Séfar
Days spent moving through the “petrified metropolis” — mineral pillars, narrow stone streets, and shadowed caves where sunrise light paints dramatic shadows across the rock. Here lie the mysterious Round Heads paintings and the monumental Great Martian God, etched during ancient rituals thousands of years ago. Camp set directly within natural sandstone chambers, sleeping under raw constellations.
Day 6: Descent
A different route down the plateau past further rock art rarely seen by other groups, with a final night camped at the plateau’s edge.
Day 7: Return to Djanet
Farewell breakfast and transfer back to Djanet for departure.
Bonus: Shared nomadic mint tea rituals around cedar wood fires, and a private briefing with a rock art specialist before departure.
