Day 1: Djanet — The Oasis
A gentle introduction to the Sahara before heading north. The shaded paths of the old ksour, the covered souk’s spices and desert provisions, the artisan quarter’s silversmiths, and an evening of imzad music and nomadic tea by the fire.
Day 2: Erg Admer
Departure into the golden dunes of Erg Admer, with a slow camel trek at golden hour — a first taste of the open desert.
Day 3-4: Canyon of Essendilène
Into the narrow, hidden gorge of Essendilène, walking the canyon floor among pink oleanders and wild date palms to reach spring-fed gueltas — natural rock pools where you can swim in clear mountain water in the middle of the desert. Shaded halts under desert acacias between walks.
Day 5: Tikobawen & Timras
A morning among the giant stone arches of Tikobawen and the slender mineral needles of Timras, rising like cathedrals from untouched sand — among the Sahara’s least-visited formations.
Day 6: Return to Djanet
A final dune crossing before returning to Djanet for departure.
Bonus: Well suited to families — gentle 4WD pacing, dune sledding, camel encounters, and the chance to spot fossils and pottery shards from when the Sahara was a river-fed savanna.
